At the start of 2009, after a period of drought and weeks of extreme heat across Victoria, Victorians prepared themselves for extreme fire danger. On 7 February 2009 Victoria’s nightmare was released!
Black Saturday was the worst bushfire in the nations recorded history. It claims 173 people, injured 5000 people and destroyed 2029 homes, it also killed countless wildlife and livestock and burnt through 4500-square-kilometres of land.
The fires went on and so did the destruction. The consequences of the fires are severe, and even though months had past people were still coming to terms of how much damage the fires did.
But through the traumatic experience the Australian community has really shown. As like Australians we help one another.
The only thing to keep on doing is to recover and build once again.
